Market Overview
One of the fastest-growing large EU ecommerce markets.
Poland generated around €35.2 billion in ecommerce sales in 2024, growing at roughly 10% year on year, one of the fastest growth rates among large EU markets and the fastest in Central and Eastern Europe (Izba Gospodarki Elektronicznej / European E-commerce Report 2025). Around two-thirds of the Polish population shop online (a measure of all adults, not just internet users), still below the EU average of 72% on the same basis, which points to genuine headroom alongside the growth already happening.
Poland combines structural scale with sustained growth. The market is now larger than Sweden, Belgium or Austria, and growing faster than any of them. Younger Polish consumers are deeply digital, and BLIK has become embedded in everyday transaction behaviour across age groups faster than any comparable payment shift in Western Europe.
68-76%
share of Polish online payments through BLIK. Among 15 to 24 year olds, BLIK adoption reaches 86%, with 14.2 million active users. That’s the highest single-payment-method dominance in any major European market alongside iDEAL in the Netherlands.
For US and UK brands, Poland is the strongest growth opportunity in central and eastern Europe. The barriers are real: VAT registration takes 4 to 6 months (tied with Spain for the longest in the EU), KSeF mandatory B2B e-invoicing is rolling out through 2026, and the marketplace landscape is dominated by Allegro, not Amazon. BLIK and InPost are operational requirements, not optional integrations.
Cross-Border Opportunity
Polish consumers favour Polish brands.
Cross-border represents around 10 to 15% of Polish ecommerce, well below the EU average. Polish consumers actively prefer Polish brands and Polish-language platforms. The “Polskie dla Polaków” sentiment holds firm rather than fading, particularly outside fashion and consumer electronics.
Where cross-border buying does happen, China leads through Temu and Shein, with Germany, the UK and the US accounting for the largest other inbound flows. Premium and luxury brands have growing traction as Polish disposable income rises.
10-15%
cross-border share of Polish ecommerce, lower than France, Germany, Italy or the UK. Polish positioning matters more than international positioning; brands that present as locally credible operations outperform brands that present as “international with Polish translation.”
Categories with the highest cross-border share are fashion (around 28% of cross-border spend), consumer electronics and home goods. Polish-language content, Polish customer service, BLIK and InPost as default delivery are entry conditions, not localisation niceties.
Marketplaces
Allegro leads. Amazon trails decisively.
Marketplaces account for around 70% of Polish online retail, the highest marketplace share in any major EU market. Amazon.pl and your own DTC store both trade with no Polish entity required. Allegro dominates with 30 to 36% of total marketplace GMV and 18 to 22 million active users, and welcomes non-EEA sellers, though it caps them at one account and 500 offers. Expandly manages account setup, listings translation and ongoing integration across every major Polish marketplace, and plans your Allegro catalogue around the offer cap from the outset.
Allegro
The default starting point
18 to 22 million active users and around 30 to 36% of marketplace GMV. Deep consumer trust built over two decades. Open to international sellers, with no Polish company required; a valid foreign business registration and Polish VAT number are sufficient, and Allegro accepts Payoneer, WorldFirst, LianLian or PingPong for payouts. The one limit worth planning around: sellers based outside the EEA are capped at one account and 500 live offers, so category breadth and catalogue size need factoring into the launch plan from day one.
Temu
Disruptive entrant
Reached 19.7 million Polish users in May 2025, briefly surpassing Allegro in monthly active users. Heavy advertising and aggressive pricing make this critical competitive context for any brand selling commodity-adjacent goods.
Amazon.pl
Established alternative
Launched 2021. Has grown but remains a clear second to Allegro. Pan-EU FBA storage country.
Empik
Strongest Polish-owned alternative
Polish media and lifestyle retailer with marketplace functionality. Strong in books, music, electronics and lifestyle.
Morele.net
Consumer electronics
Polish consumer electronics marketplace with strong domestic brand recognition. Lower commission rates than Allegro for electronics.
Vinted Poland
Fashion resale
Europe’s largest C2C resale marketplace, fast-growing in Poland. Important competitive context for fashion brands.
How Polish Consumers Shop and Pay
BLIK at checkout. InPost at delivery. Non-negotiable.
BLIK accounts for around 68 to 76% of Polish online payments. The Polish domestic mobile payment system has become the default ecommerce payment method across age groups.
When selling through Allegro or Amazon.pl, both platforms manage BLIK within their own payment infrastructure, so buyers see it at checkout without any configuration on your part. For your own DTC website, BLIK integration via a provider such as Przelewy24, PayU, Adyen or Stripe is essential. Cards sit a distant second; BNPL is the fastest-growing segment, led by Allegro Pay, Klarna and PayPo.
28,000+
InPost Paczkomat lockers across Poland. 81 to 90% of Polish consumers prefer locker delivery over home delivery, with over one billion parcels handled in 2024. It’s the most developed locker network in Europe by a significant margin.
InPost Paczkomat lockers are not an alternative to home delivery. They are the dominant delivery method. Any brand serving Poland needs InPost as the default delivery option, with home delivery as an alternative rather than the other way around.
Polish returns rates sit below Germany but above the UK for fashion.

Polish VAT registration takes 4 to 6 months through Krajowa Administracja Skarbowa, tied with Spain for the longest in the EU. KSeF (Krajowy System e-Faktur), Poland’s mandatory B2B e-invoicing system, is rolling out in phases through 2026. WEEE and batteries EPR are day-one mandatory and enforced strictly. Logistics and Fulfillment
Two to three days from our Netherlands warehouse.
Our Netherlands warehouse near Schiphol Airport delivers to Polish addresses in two to three days by road, with standard EU customs flow and no Brexit-style friction, at service speeds comparable to Germany or the Czech Republic.
The critical operational decision in Poland is not warehouse location but carrier integration. InPost is the default delivery method for the large majority of Polish consumers, with DPD, GLS, Poczta Polska and Pocztex as alternatives.
2-3 days
delivery to Polish addresses. InPost Paczkomat integration is the operational priority over warehouse location, with 28,000+ locker locations providing 24-hour pickup flexibility that home delivery cannot match.
InPost is the default delivery method for the large majority of Polish consumers, with DPD, GLS, Poczta Polska and Pocztex as alternatives for customers who specifically prefer home delivery.
Cultural Considerations
Polish first. Locally credible always.
Polish consumers favour Polish brands and Polish-language platforms strongly. Inbound brands need to present as locally credible operations rather than as international brands with Polish translation. The distinction matters at every touchpoint.
Native-quality Polish translation is essential; Polish consumers can spot machine-rendered Polish immediately. Polish consumers research thoroughly before purchasing. Ceneo (price comparison) is used reflexively, and verified reviews carry significant weight.
Seasonality: Christmas dominates Q4, with Wigilia (24 December) as the main family gathering. Easter is a major secondary peak.
Black Friday is established but with stronger consumer skepticism about inflated reference prices than in Western Europe.
How Expandly Helps
Your Poland launch,
handled.
Poland rewards brands that present as locally credible operations. Long VAT registration, KSeF rollout, native Polish copy, BLIK at checkout, InPost as default delivery, and Allegro as the marketplace centre of gravity all need handling before launch.
Our Global Expansion Pathway (GEP™) sequences every step. Andy Hooper’s methodology has handled Polish launches for 2,000+ brands. For Poland, here’s what that looks like:
- Polish VAT registration with Krajowa Administracja Skarbowa, started early given the 4 to 6 month process
- KSeF e-invoicing setup so B2B invoicing flows correctly through the rollout phases
- Polish packaging EPR, WEEE and batteries EPR registration as applicable
- BLIK integration at checkout through your payment provider, alongside cards and Allegro Pay
- Native Polish translation of listings, customer service templates and key website pages
- Allegro account setup, listings and Smart programme activation, plus Amazon.pl and category marketplaces
- InPost Paczkomat integration as the default delivery option, with courier alternatives
- Fulfillment from our Netherlands warehouse with two to three day delivery to Polish addresses

Frequently Asked Questions
What founders ask before launching in Poland.
Is Poland a good market for US and UK ecommerce brands?
Poland is one of the fastest-growing major EU ecommerce markets at around +10% YoY, the fastest in Central and Eastern Europe, with roughly two-thirds of Poles shopping online, still below the EU average. That means real headroom for growth alongside what’s already happening. The barriers are real: VAT registration takes 4 to 6 months, KSeF e-invoicing is rolling out through 2026, the marketplace landscape is Allegro-led rather than Amazon-led, and BLIK and InPost are operational requirements. Brands willing to localise properly find Poland delivers outsized growth.
How long does Polish VAT registration really take?
4 to 6 months through Krajowa Administracja Skarbowa, tied with Spain for the longest VAT registration in the EU, materially longer than Germany (13 weeks), the UK (11 weeks) or Italy (7 weeks). Expandly initiates Polish VAT registration as the first compliance action when Poland is in scope.
Why does Allegro matter more than Amazon in Poland?
Allegro is the dominant Polish marketplace with 18 to 22 million active users and 30 to 36% of total marketplace GMV. It pre-dates Amazon’s Polish launch by over two decades and has deep consumer trust. Amazon.pl launched in 2021 and remains a clear second. Temu briefly surpassed Allegro in monthly active users in May 2025, making the landscape worth monitoring continuously.
What is BLIK and how important is it?
BLIK is Poland’s domestic mobile payment system, accounting for around 68 to 76% of Polish online payments, with 14.2 million active users. If you sell through Allegro or Amazon.pl, both platforms manage BLIK automatically. For your own DTC website, BLIK integration is essential. The dominance is comparable to iDEAL in the Netherlands.
Do I really need InPost Paczkomat integration?
Yes, as the default delivery option. InPost operates 28,000+ Paczkomat lockers, and 81 to 90% of Polish consumers prefer locker delivery over home delivery. The locker-first preference has no parallel in Western European markets and shapes Polish ecommerce operations fundamentally.
Why is the cross-border share lower in Poland?
Polish consumers actively prefer Polish brands and Polish-language platforms, and cross-border share sits at around 10 to 15%, well below France, Germany or Italy. Polish-language content, Polish customer service, BLIK and InPost as default delivery are entry conditions, not localisation niceties.
