The first country you choose doesn’t just set your launch date. It sets your logistics footprint, your working capital cycle and your compliance load for everything that follows.
Compliance failures rarely surface at launch. They surface six months later, when cash is tighter, growth has accelerated, and unwinding the mistake costs more than getting it right would have.
Ads don’t kill margin overseas. The supply chain does, longer lead times, more customs exposure, more fulfilment nodes, more currency movement, all multiplying the moment you cross a border.
Most brands launch everywhere at once: Shopify, Amazon, eBay, TikTok, wholesale and retail, all in the same market in the same month. That’s channel chaos, not scale. We stabilise your platform first...
Brands rarely fail to grow. They fail by growing too early, pouring spend and ambition onto governance that isn’t structured, logistics that can’t absorb it, and channels that were never sequenced. Once Explore...
Most brands don’t lose internationally because they picked the wrong market. They lose because they never built a roadmap at all, so expansion becomes a series of launches and reactive fixes...
Amazon handed prep work back to sellers, and the consequences of getting it wrong land on you rather than on them. A carton that arrives wrong gets refused, refused stock sits somewhere earning nothing, and a launch date moves.
FBM keeps the things worth keeping. Your packaging, customer data & margin. It also puts Amazon’s performance metrics directly on your dispatch times, which is a comfortable trade at home and a much harder one from four thousand miles away.
On a marketplace, a slow delivery is the marketplace’s fault. On your own store it is yours. The box that arrives, the day it arrives and how easy it is to send back are all part of what someone bought, and they decide whether a first order becomes a second one.
Treated as a cost, a return is written off twice, once on the refund and again on the unit. Treated as inventory, a lot of it goes back on sale. What decides which of those happens is how quickly the unit gets looked at and how far it had to travel to be looked at.
Stock held inside the market it sells into arrives as a domestic delivery. No customs event on the order, and nothing for your customer to settle before the courier hands the parcel over. Ours sits in the UK, the Netherlands and the US, which covers...

From July 8, 2026, mandatory electronic Certificate of Compliance (CoC) filing applies to all regulated consumer products entering the United States. Filing must be submitted through a CPSC Participating Government Agency (PGA) message set in the ACE Automated Commercial Environment system at the time of entry. The requirement applies regardless of shipment value.
The CoC requirement itself is not new — regulated consumer products have required a Certificate of Compliance since 2008. What changes on July 8 is the submission method. Up to now, brands could maintain a CoC without filing it electronically at entry. From July 8, electronic submission through ACE is mandatory at the time every shipment enters. There are no exemptions for low-value shipments and no direct-to-consumer carve-outs. Any regulated consumer product crossing the US border from that date requires an active electronic filing to clear customs.
Two filing routes are available. The full electronic filing route requires submitting all seven required CoC data elements per product per shipment directly via the PGA message set in ACE. The reference filing route allows brands to upload certificate data to the CPSC Product Registry in advance and then submit a shortened reference PGA message set with each entry — referencing the pre-uploaded certificate rather than resubmitting all data fields each time. Both routes are compliant. The reference route reduces the per-shipment data volume once the registry upload is complete, but the registry upload itself requires time to complete correctly.
The Importer of Record bears full compliance responsibility for accuracy and timely submission. Brands that use freight forwarders or third-party logistics providers may authorise those partners to upload data to the CPSC Product Registry on their behalf, but the IOR remains accountable. Non-compliance consequences include shipment delays or holds, additional information requests from CPSC, refusal of admission to the US, and standard PGA submission fees. With nine days to the deadline, brands should confirm their ACE readiness with their freight partners now.
For US brands expanding internationally, Expandly's compliance onboarding covers documentation and import requirements so regulatory changes like this are built into operations from the start, not retrofitted under deadline pressure.
Updated 29 Jun 2026
The July 8, 2026 deadline is now in effect. CPSC has not signalled any extension or grace period. Brands and their freight partners should confirm ACE system readiness for electronic PGA message set filing or CPSC Product Registry upload. Any brand that has not yet confirmed their filing route with their Importer of Record should treat this as an immediate priority.
Expandly helps US ecommerce brands expand into Europe — compliance, marketplaces and fulfilment, all handled. We’ve supported 2,000+ brands make the move.
The July 8 CPSC electronic CoC filing mandate is a documentation and systems requirement, not a new product safety standard — but non-compliance stops shipments at the border, which makes it commercially critical. For US brands importing regulated consumer products, including any sourcing from overseas, the question is whether your freight partner and ACE setup are ready for the PGA message set submission by July 8. For brands planning EU expansion, import compliance in both directions — into the US and into the EU — is part of the operational infrastructure Expandly builds from the start. Customs documentation, HS coding and compliance filings are set up correctly before stock moves, not after the first shipment is held at the border.
