remaining - EU de minimis ends July 1

Every parcel just got more expensive. Here's how to protect your margin.

From July 1, the EU’s €150 duty-free threshold disappears. Brands still shipping from a US warehouse face €4 to €6 in new per-parcel overhead on every order. The brands already operating from EU soil won’t notice a thing.

Expandly helps US ecommerce brands sell in Europe without the compliance headache — VAT, EPR, 3PL fulfilment and omni-channel management, all handled under one roof.

What's changing - and what it costs you

The EU just removed your cost advantage

The de minimis exemption let parcels under €150 enter the EU without customs duties. From July 1 that’s gone. Every shipment needs a full customs entry — and the fees are automatic and unavoidable.

And that’s before VAT registration, EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) compliance costs, labelling obligations, and the admin overhead of managing EU rules across multiple countries from a US base.

Total new overhead per parcel
€5.50 – €7.50

Flat-rate duties on every parcel

€3 flat-rate duty plus €1.50 to €2 in processing fees per shipment. On a €35 order that’s 11 to 17% in new costs before VAT or carrier surcharges. No minimum, no exemption, no workaround for US-based sellers shipping direct.

VAT, EPR and compliance costs

Selling into Germany, France, or the Netherlands? You need local VAT registration before your first shipment — or your Amazon account gets suspended. EPR adds registration costs, reporting obligations, and fees in every market.

Margin erosion hiding in plain sight

US-to-EU shipping already costs more than local EU fulfilment. Add new duties, customs documentation, carrier surcharges, and compliance overhead — and the margin on EU orders can drop 12 to 20 percentage points.

The Expandly solution

Your stock is already in Europe. Every problem goes away.

When your goods are customs-cleared and sitting in our EU warehouse, the July 1 changes don’t affect you. No per-parcel duties. No per-order customs declarations. No VAT surprises.
