The first country you choose doesn’t just set your launch date. It sets your logistics footprint, your working capital cycle and your compliance load for everything that follows.
Compliance failures rarely surface at launch. They surface six months later, when cash is tighter, growth has accelerated, and unwinding the mistake costs more than getting it right would have.
Ads don’t kill margin overseas. The supply chain does, longer lead times, more customs exposure, more fulfilment nodes, more currency movement, all multiplying the moment you cross a border.
Most brands launch everywhere at once: Shopify, Amazon, eBay, TikTok, wholesale and retail, all in the same market in the same month. That’s channel chaos, not scale. We stabilise your platform first...
Brands rarely fail to grow. They fail by growing too early, pouring spend and ambition onto governance that isn’t structured, logistics that can’t absorb it, and channels that were never sequenced. Once Explore...
Most brands don’t lose internationally because they picked the wrong market. They lose because they never built a roadmap at all, so expansion becomes a series of launches and reactive fixes...
Amazon handed prep work back to sellers, and the consequences of getting it wrong land on you rather than on them. A carton that arrives wrong gets refused, refused stock sits somewhere earning nothing, and a launch date moves.
FBM keeps the things worth keeping. Your packaging, customer data & margin. It also puts Amazon’s performance metrics directly on your dispatch times, which is a comfortable trade at home and a much harder one from four thousand miles away.
On a marketplace, a slow delivery is the marketplace’s fault. On your own store it is yours. The box that arrives, the day it arrives and how easy it is to send back are all part of what someone bought, and they decide whether a first order becomes a second one.
Treated as a cost, a return is written off twice, once on the refund and again on the unit. Treated as inventory, a lot of it goes back on sale. What decides which of those happens is how quickly the unit gets looked at and how far it had to travel to be looked at.
Stock held inside the market it sells into arrives as a domestic delivery. No customs event on the order, and nothing for your customer to settle before the courier hands the parcel over. Ours sits in the UK, the Netherlands and the US, which covers...

EU B2C marketplace GMV grew 8% year on year, according to the ChannelX European Marketplaces Sector Report 2026 published 22 June 2026. Amazon remains dominant across every core EU market. TikTok Shop is now live in six European countries. The Netherlands ranks among the fastest-growing established EU marketplace markets.
The ChannelX report confirms what the numbers have been pointing toward for several years: marketplace presence is no longer a supplementary channel for brands selling into Europe. It is the competitive baseline. Amazon continues to hold its dominant position across UK, Germany, Netherlands and France. Germany, the EU's largest marketplace market by GMV, remains the anchor market for any US brand entering Europe. The Netherlands, already one of the strongest established EU markets, is registering among the highest growth rates on the continent.
The most significant structural shift in the report is the speed of social commerce growth. TikTok Shop's June 15 launch in Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands and Poland extended its European footprint to six markets, and it now sits firmly in the fastest-growing channel category by rate. For US brands already active on TikTok UK with established creator partnerships, the path to EU consumer audiences through the same storefront infrastructure is now open. The "Sell Across Europe" tool removes the integration barrier that would otherwise require separate market-by-market setup.
The data signals something more fundamental than individual channel performance. US brands that arrived in Europe through a single international shipping arrangement are operating below the competitive baseline. Buyers in Germany and the Netherlands expect to purchase through local marketplace storefronts, pay in local currency, and receive goods quickly. That expectation only intensifies as marketplace penetration grows year on year.
Germany and the Netherlands present different opportunity profiles, and the report's data makes the distinction worth acting on. Germany's position as the largest EU marketplace market by total GMV makes it the natural anchor: the market where volume exists and where buyer expectations around local fulfillment and local currency pricing are highest. The Netherlands is a different kind of opportunity, one of the fastest-growing established EU markets, positioned at the centre of EU logistics infrastructure, with an Amazon marketplace that consistently outperforms its geographic size. For most US brands, the Netherlands is where EU inventory lands first and where the first consumer orders ship from. Germany is where the volume compounds over time.
Expandly's marketplace setup covers Amazon EU and emerging social commerce channels from day one, so brands can reach EU buyers where they're already shopping.
Expandly helps US ecommerce brands expand into Europe — compliance, marketplaces and fulfilment, all handled. We’ve supported 2,000+ brands make the move.
Eight percent annual GMV growth across EU marketplaces is the aggregate number, but the story underneath is about competitive structure. Germany and the Netherlands now treat local fulfillment, local currency pricing and local marketplace presence as table stakes, not differentiators. US brands still shipping internationally from home are visible to EU buyers but losing on price, speed and perceived trustworthiness to locally-established sellers. Expandly's onboarding sequence covers EU marketplace setup and compliance in parallel, starting with VAT registration and moving directly to Amazon EU listing and channel integration, so brands can trade competitively from day one. Inventory held in our Netherlands warehouse is positioned inside the EU, eliminating the cross-border friction that makes international shipping models uncompetitive at scale.
