    • Amazon FBA Support

Amazon handed prep work back to sellers, and the consequences of getting it wrong land on you rather than on them. A carton that arrives wrong gets refused, refused stock sits somewhere earning nothing, and a launch date moves.

      Amazon FBM Support

FBM keeps the things worth keeping. Your packaging, customer data & margin. It also puts Amazon’s performance metrics directly on your dispatch times, which is a comfortable trade at home and a much harder one from four thousand miles away.

      Direct-to-Consumer Fulfilment

On a marketplace, a slow delivery is the marketplace’s fault. On your own store it is yours. The box that arrives, the day it arrives and how easy it is to send back are all part of what someone bought, and they decide whether a first order becomes a second one.

      Returns, Reworks & Recycling

Treated as a cost, a return is written off twice, once on the refund and again on the unit. Treated as inventory, a lot of it goes back on sale. What decides which of those happens is how quickly the unit gets looked at and how far it had to travel to be looked at.

      Warehouse Location

Stock held inside the market it sells into arrives as a domestic delivery. No customs event on the order, and nothing for your customer to settle before the courier hands the parcel over. Ours sits in the UK, the Netherlands and the US, which covers...

New EU Van Rules Have Raised Road Freight Costs 35%

Vans between 2.5 and 3.5 tonnes came under EU driving and rest-hour rules on 1 July 2026, and the rate card has not settled since.

01 What changed on 1 July
02 Why transit times jumped
03 Which corridors carry the cost
04 Enforcement pressure still building
05 What to ask your carrier

Key Takeaways

► Van freight rates sit 35 to 80% above pre-July levels
► A 1,500km run now needs 42 hours, not 27.5
► Around 40,000 Polish-registered vans are in scope
► Short local legs beat long international road runs

Moving goods across Europe by van costs more than it did before 1 July 2026. On that date, international freight vans between 2.5 and 3.5 tonnes came under mandatory tachograph and EU driving and rest-hour rules. Rates on affected routes now sit 35 to 80 per cent above pre-July levels, having eased back from an initial spike of 100 to 200 per cent.

The mechanism is simple enough. A driver who could previously run a long leg in one stretch now has to stop. A 1,500km movement that took around 27.5 hours needs more than 42, which forces either a two-driver team or a slower delivery. Neither option is free, and roughly 40,000 Polish-registered light vans working the Central and Eastern Europe to Germany and Western Europe corridors are inside the change.

German authorities began enforcing on day one. That matters because those same corridors carry a large share of the pallet and parcel movements feeding German and Dutch distribution, which is where most US brands hold their European stock. If your 3PL quotes you a rate for inbound movements into or across Germany, this is sitting inside the number.

Pressure is building from other directions too. German haulage association BGL reports its members' freight volumes down roughly 24 per cent over twenty years and fleets cut by 10 to 15 per cent in the past two years, and it is pushing for stricter EU-wide enforcement of the Mobility Package. It has also proposed that Smart Tachograph 2 border-crossing data be sent automatically to a European Commission database, though that remains a proposal and nothing more. Separately, carriers from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and North Macedonia planned a blockade of Croatian and Hungarian crossings and Serbian rail terminals for 14 September 2026, over automatic enforcement of the Schengen 90-day rule since the Entry/Exit System went fully live on 10 April 2026.

None of this reverses. Road freight inside Europe is becoming a regulated, enforced, more expensive business, and the cost lands on whoever is paying for the movement.

  • Ask your carrier which of your lanes use vans in the 2.5 to 3.5 tonne band, because those are the lanes repricing.
  • Rebuild transit-time assumptions around 42 hours for a 1,500km leg, not 27.5.
  • Check whether your inbound European movements route through the Central and Eastern European corridors most affected.
  • Treat a single long road leg from one European hub as a cost risk, not a simplification.

The bigger picture

Van Rules Reprice Road Freight Stock Position Absorbs the Shock

Light commercial vans coming under EU driving and rest-hour rules on 1 July 2026 has added 35 to 80 per cent to rates on the corridors feeding German and Dutch distribution. A US brand serving European customers from a single distant point pays that increase on every movement, and adding markets multiplies the exposure rather than spreading it. Expandly's onboarding is compliance-first, and for a brand shipping physical goods into Europe the first step is a market and fulfilment review that settles VAT registration and import documentation before stock is positioned. Moving inventory inside the region early turns a long regulated international leg into a short domestic one.

  • Mandatory tachograph and rest-hour rules have applied to international freight vans of 2.5 to 3.5 tonnes since 1 July 2026, with German enforcement from day one
  • Expandly holds client stock in our Netherlands warehouse, inside the EU customs area and close to the largest European consumer markets
  • A 1,500km leg that now takes over 42 hours instead of 27.5 breaks any delivery promise built on the old transit time

German Delivery Expectations

German shoppers rate reliable delivery above speed, 36 per cent against 31 per cent. When road transit times stretch, the promise most at risk is the one German consumers care about most.

Mandatory Tachograph Rules

International freight vans of 2.5 to 3.5 tonnes must run tachographs and observe EU driving and rest-hour limits. In practice that turns a 27.5 hour run into one of more than 42 hours, or forces a second driver into the cab.
