A six step process for effective expansion
Understand the opportunity and requirements
Amazon handed prep work back to sellers, and the consequences of getting it wrong land on you rather than on them. A carton that arrives wrong gets refused, refused stock sits somewhere earning nothing, and a launch date moves.
FBM keeps the things worth keeping. Your packaging, customer data & margin. It also puts Amazon’s performance metrics directly on your dispatch times, which is a comfortable trade at home and a much harder one from four thousand miles away.
On a marketplace, a slow delivery is the marketplace’s fault. On your own store it is yours. The box that arrives, the day it arrives and how easy it is to send back are all part of what someone bought, and they decide whether a first order becomes a second one.
Treated as a cost, a return is written off twice, once on the refund and again on the unit. Treated as inventory, a lot of it goes back on sale. What decides which of those happens is how quickly the unit gets looked at and how far it had to travel to be looked at.
Stock held inside the market it sells into arrives as a domestic delivery. No customs event on the order, and nothing for your customer to settle before the courier hands the parcel over. Ours sits in the UK, the Netherlands and the US, which covers...

Cosmoprof North America is billed as the leading B2B beauty exhibition in the Americas, and the 24th edition runs for three days at Mandalay Bay. It splits in two: Cosmoprof for finished beauty products across skincare, haircare, nail, fragrance and accessories, and Cosmopack for the supply chain behind them, covering raw materials, manufacturing and packaging.
The 2026 edition recorded 26,500 attendee visits, 952 exhibitors and 103 countries represented, per the organiser. Nothing is published for 2027 yet, and registration opens in February 2027.
Two shows share a roof. Cosmoprof brings finished-product brands and the retail buyers who stock them. Cosmopack brings the formulators, contract manufacturers and packaging suppliers who make those products exist in the first place, which is a very different set of conversations in the same building.
The buyer side is genuinely international: 103 countries were represented in 2026, on the organiser's own count, alongside 952 exhibitors. A CosmoTalks conference strand, CosmoTrends reporting and a Buyer Program run next to the floor.
If your priority right now is lining up a formulator, a filler or a packaging supplier, this is a stronger venue for that than almost anything else on the US calendar, because Cosmopack puts the whole supply chain in the same building as the buyers. If your priority is European distribution specifically, treat the show as preparation rather than as the place a deal closes. The high-value use of three days is to walk Cosmopack asking every supplier whether their formulations and packaging already carry European documentation. That question costs nothing in July in Las Vegas and a great deal after a notification has been refused.
Founders looking for distribution, shelf space and the next manufacturing partner. Growth here is usually faster than the compliance work behind it, which is exactly the gap that stalls a European launch.
The people deciding what gets stocked, drawn from 103 countries in 2026. A buyer from a European retailer will ask about your notification and your Responsible Person early, so have an answer ready.
Raw materials, contract manufacturing and filling. Ingredient rules differ between the US and the EU, and a manufacturer who already produces for European clients will save you months of reformulation.
Primary and secondary packaging, decoration and componentry. Worth raising European disposal information requirements here, since packaging decisions are expensive to revisit once tooling exists.
The show runs as two connected halls plus a conference strand, so the tracks below describe the ground a visitor covers rather than a timetable. Session lines are indicative and built from the organiser's published themes.
Skincare, haircare, nail, fragrance and accessories from brands looking for distribution. For anyone eyeing Europe, the useful exercise on this floor is comparative: look at which ranges already carry European-format ingredient listings and multilingual labelling, because that tells you who has done the work.
Raw materials, manufacturing and packaging under one roof. Most European compliance questions are answered on this side of the show, because a safety assessment, a stable formulation and a compliant pack are supplier-side facts long before they become your problem.
The conference strand and the trend reporting that runs alongside it. Both are worth building a schedule around if you want a read on where the category is going, rather than only what is on the stands this year.
Cosmoprof runs a structured Buyer Program next to the open floor, and the buyer base spans a great many countries. That breadth is why a European conversation can genuinely start in Nevada, provided you arrive able to answer the documentation questions it will raise.
These are the themes we expect around the 2027 edition, drawn from the Events Intelligence record of September 2026, and this block will be refreshed as coverage develops.
The organiser reports 26,500 attendee visits, 952 exhibitors and 103 countries represented for the 2026 edition. No 2027 attendance or exhibitor figure has been published, so every number on this page belongs to 2026 and is labelled that way. Expect the 2027 picture to firm up once registration opens.
The organiser has confirmed a February 2027 registration opening, with pricing not yet published. For a brand travelling from outside the US, that leaves about five months between registration and the show, which is tight for arranging meetings with international buyers. Put a reminder in for February rather than waiting for an email.
Running Cosmopack alongside the finished-product halls is the structural feature that distinguishes this show. Raw materials, manufacturing and packaging sit metres from the buyers, which means a brand can resolve a formulation question and a distribution question on the same afternoon. For European entry that adjacency matters more than it first appears.
Beyond the stands, the show publishes CosmoTrends reporting and runs the CosmoTalks conference strand. Both are more useful than a walk of the floor if what you need is a view on where beauty demand is heading over the next 18 months.
With 103 countries represented in 2026, plenty of the people walking the floor buy for markets outside North America. A European buyer's first question is rarely about margin; it is whether your products are notified and who your Responsible Person is. A brand that cannot answer that tends to lose the conversation early.
Most categories entering the EU need a handful of registrations. Cosmetics need those plus a regime of their own. Every product has to be notified through the Cosmetic Products Notification Portal (CPNP) before it can be sold, backed by a safety assessment, with an EU Responsible Person named and strict ingredient and labelling rules met. Great Britain runs a parallel system, so a brand selling into both the EU and Britain does the entire exercise twice.
Expandly works with 2,000+ brands and runs the European side as one operation on the Global Expansion Pathway (GEP™): VAT (value-added tax) registration, compliance, our Netherlands warehouse and marketplace setup. Do the sourcing in Las Vegas. Let us work out what it takes to make the result sellable in Europe.

Cosmoprof is the finished-product side, covering skincare, haircare, nail, fragrance and accessories. Cosmopack is the supply chain behind it: raw materials, manufacturing and packaging. Most brands walk both, because the compliance answers a European launch needs usually sit on the Cosmopack side.

Cosmetics face specific EU rules on top of general compliance: each product must be notified through the Cosmetic Products Notification Portal (CPNP), hold a safety assessment, and name an EU Responsible Person. Ingredient and labelling rules are strict. These sit alongside VAT (value-added tax) and packaging registration, so beauty brands should confirm the cosmetics-specific set early.
A Responsible Person is an entity based in the EU (or UK) that takes legal responsibility for a product's compliance and acts as the contact for authorities. Since the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) applied from late 2024, most consumer products sold in the EU need one, and a US brand cannot fill the role itself.
Supplements and health products are tightly regulated and rules differ by country. Permitted ingredients, dosages, and health claims vary across the EU, and some products classed as supplements in the US are treated as medicines in parts of Europe. Check classification and claims per market before listing, as this is a common and costly trip-up.
Beauty is the category where European entry is settled by documentation rather than demand. Three days at Mandalay Bay is a rare chance to ask your suppliers the right questions before you have committed to a range, a formulation or a mould.
Send us your range before you fly and we will tell you what each product needs on the European side: CPNP notification, a safety assessment, a Responsible Person, labelling in the right languages, and the packaging registrations that go with them. Afterwards, bring us the suppliers you picked and we will map what still has to happen before a first order can legally be sold in the EU.
It costs nothing to ask, and it is a great deal less painful than finding out at notification stage.
