The first country you choose doesn’t just set your launch date. It sets your logistics footprint, your working capital cycle and your compliance load for everything that follows.
Compliance failures rarely surface at launch. They surface six months later, when cash is tighter, growth has accelerated, and unwinding the mistake costs more than getting it right would have.
Ads don’t kill margin overseas. The supply chain does, longer lead times, more customs exposure, more fulfilment nodes, more currency movement, all multiplying the moment you cross a border.
Most brands launch everywhere at once: Shopify, Amazon, eBay, TikTok, wholesale and retail, all in the same market in the same month. That’s channel chaos, not scale. We stabilise your platform first...
Brands rarely fail to grow. They fail by growing too early, pouring spend and ambition onto governance that isn’t structured, logistics that can’t absorb it, and channels that were never sequenced. Once Explore...
Most brands don’t lose internationally because they picked the wrong market. They lose because they never built a roadmap at all, so expansion becomes a series of launches and reactive fixes...
Amazon handed prep work back to sellers, and the consequences of getting it wrong land on you rather than on them. A carton that arrives wrong gets refused, refused stock sits somewhere earning nothing, and a launch date moves.
FBM keeps the things worth keeping. Your packaging, customer data & margin. It also puts Amazon’s performance metrics directly on your dispatch times, which is a comfortable trade at home and a much harder one from four thousand miles away.
On a marketplace, a slow delivery is the marketplace’s fault. On your own store it is yours. The box that arrives, the day it arrives and how easy it is to send back are all part of what someone bought, and they decide whether a first order becomes a second one.
Treated as a cost, a return is written off twice, once on the refund and again on the unit. Treated as inventory, a lot of it goes back on sale. What decides which of those happens is how quickly the unit gets looked at and how far it had to travel to be looked at.
Stock held inside the market it sells into arrives as a domestic delivery. No customs event on the order, and nothing for your customer to settle before the courier hands the parcel over. Ours sits in the UK, the Netherlands and the US, which covers...

The European Commission is expected to issue a final decision on restrictions for monacolin K later in 2026. For brands selling red yeast rice supplements in EU markets, the direction of travel has been clear since EFSA's 2018 safety assessment linked high-dose red yeast rice to myopathy and liver injury.
Monacolin K is the active compound in red yeast rice, a popular supplement ingredient used for its cholesterol-management properties. Its structure is identical to lovastatin, a prescription-only statin medication. That pharmacological similarity has driven regulatory concern across the EU for several years. The Commission's expected restriction will establish what dose thresholds, if any, are permissible in food supplements.
For health and wellness brands with red yeast rice in their EU product lineup, the risk is real now, not only after the decision lands. Products currently on the market that exceed likely threshold doses are at risk of needing reformulation, relabeling, or withdrawal from EU channels once the restriction is published in the Official Journal. Brands that wait for the final text before acting will have less time to respond.
NutraIngredients' mid-year compliance recap from July 2026 confirmed the decision remains pending and elevated the monitoring priority for this story. The exact restriction parameters will determine what dose levels, if any, can still be lawfully marketed. The best preparation is understanding your current formulation's monacolin K content and mapping it against the likely thresholds.
Health and wellness brands expanding into the EU need to know which ingredients in their product lines carry pending regulatory decisions like this one. Expandly's compliance onboarding covers ingredient regulatory status across EU markets as part of setup, so potential market access risks are identified before a brand goes live.
The decision will be published in the EU Official Journal. Monitor it.
Expandly helps US ecommerce brands expand into Europe — compliance, marketplaces and fulfilment, all handled. We’ve supported 2,000+ brands make the move.
Monacolin K is not the only supplement ingredient under active regulatory review in the EU. Brands building EU market strategies need to treat pending regulatory decisions as live risks rather than future planning items. A restriction published in the Official Journal gives brands limited time to reformulate, relabel and remove non-compliant products from sale before enforcement begins. Expandly's compliance onboarding identifies these pending decisions as part of product review, so brands know before they launch which ingredients may require a change in formulation or a market-by-market assessment before their products can be listed.
Global Consumer Health Market
The global consumer health market reached USD$338 billion in 2025. For US supplement brands considering EU expansion, that market size reflects sustained consumer spending on health products that mirrors the demand base brands have already proven at home.

EU Supplement Compliance
Directive 2002/46/EC governs food supplement composition and labeling across all 27 EU member states. A Responsible Person designation and product notification are required before any supplement reaches the EU market. Expandly manages both as part of your market setup.

Remove the Risk. Keep the Growth.
Expanding without the right setup exposes brands to VAT penalties, marketplace suspension and customs delays. Expandly eliminates each risk point before it becomes a problem.
