A six step process for effective expansion
Understand the opportunity and requirements
Amazon handed prep work back to sellers, and the consequences of getting it wrong land on you rather than on them. A carton that arrives wrong gets refused, refused stock sits somewhere earning nothing, and a launch date moves.
FBM keeps the things worth keeping. Your packaging, customer data & margin. It also puts Amazon’s performance metrics directly on your dispatch times, which is a comfortable trade at home and a much harder one from four thousand miles away.
On a marketplace, a slow delivery is the marketplace’s fault. On your own store it is yours. The box that arrives, the day it arrives and how easy it is to send back are all part of what someone bought, and they decide whether a first order becomes a second one.
Treated as a cost, a return is written off twice, once on the refund and again on the unit. Treated as inventory, a lot of it goes back on sale. What decides which of those happens is how quickly the unit gets looked at and how far it had to travel to be looked at.
Stock held inside the market it sells into arrives as a domestic delivery. No customs event on the order, and nothing for your customer to settle before the courier hands the parcel over. Ours sits in the UK, the Netherlands and the US, which covers...

TikTok Shop UK has reached 300,000 small business sellers as of July 2026. Beauty remains the platform's defining category in the UK, and TikTok Shop is now confirmed as the UK's fourth-largest beauty retailer by gross merchandise value.
The headline number from Q1 2026, beauty sales approaching one billion dollars, has been sustained into Q2. Two consecutive quarters near that level is not a spike. It is a baseline.
Live shopping is the engine. Sessions on TikTok Shop UK convert at approximately three times the rate of standard product listings. For beauty brands where demonstration sells, across skincare, haircare and cosmetics, the format is structurally better suited than static marketplace listings.
For US beauty brands considering UK entry, the TikTok Shop question is increasingly separate from the Amazon UK question. A brand with an established TikTok presence in the US starts from a meaningful advantage, because creator relationships, content formats and algorithmic track record all transfer. The gap is UK fulfilment, product labelling compliance and a registered UK business entity.
The 300,000 seller figure also signals something practical. TikTok Shop UK enforces shipping service levels strictly, and the platform's store rating system, introduced in 2026 alongside the Authorised Health Representative requirement for health, beauty and wellness categories, penalises brands that miss them. A US-based fulfilment model cannot meet UK shipping requirements at meaningful sales volume, so in-market stock is now a baseline for serious participation.
Getting the UK entity, the listing compliance and the in-market stock position in place before the first live session is the groundwork Expandly puts in for beauty brands entering this channel.
Expandly helps US ecommerce brands expand into Europe — compliance, marketplaces and fulfilment, all handled. We’ve supported 2,000+ brands make the move.
TikTok Shop's UK growth reflects a structural shift in how beauty products are discovered and bought, and for certain categories and demographics the channel is now primary rather than supplementary. For a US brand that raises a harder entry question than a marketplace listing does, because competing properly means a UK entity, compliant labelling, the Authorised Health Representative designation and stock held in the UK, all before the first live session earns anything. Expandly's compliance-first onboarding sets up the UK entity and product label review first, then the channel integration and in-market stock position that the platform's service levels demand. Doing it in that order means the creator investment lands on a store that can actually fulfil, rather than one that accrues rating penalties while the compliance catches up.
German Beauty Search Growth
Demand for beauty products across Europe is growing fast enough to reward brands that get the channel setup right early. The same creator-led discovery driving UK sales is visible in search behaviour across the major EU markets.

European Cross-Border Ecommerce
A UK channel position is rarely the end of the plan, and cross-border demand is what makes the next market worth the setup. Each one brings its own listing, tax and compliance requirements rather than inheriting the UK's.
